AERA started with a practical problem and a stubborn annoyance.
The problem: workout clothes that looked good in photos but misbehaved in class. A waistband that rolls down. Fabric that isn't squat-proof under gym lights. Flatlock seams you have to think about mid-movement.
The annoyance was harder to name. Almost everything out there spoke to us as if we were a project to be fixed: a body to adjust, a version of ourselves to reach. We wanted clothes that started from the premise that we are already here.
It's not about getting somewhere.
It's choosing you, every day.
Where we come from
Designed in New York.
Made in Brazil.
That second half isn't a footnote about cost. Brazilian activewear manufacturing is truly among the best in the world, and it's where the techniques we rely on were born: sculpting compression that still breathes, chafe-free flatlock seams that disappear on the skin, fabric weight developed to hold its shape after hundreds of washes.
We produce in the same region these factories have supplied for decades. We visit. We know the names of the people who cut and sew our pieces. When a sample comes back wrong, it goes back until it's right. This is a slower way to build a collection than ordering from a catalog.
The design happens in New York, where the pieces are tested in the life they were made for: the 7 AM class, the subway, picking up the kids, the coffee run that runs long. If a legging can't handle all four without needing adjustment, it doesn't make it to the store.
Who we make it for
The woman who keeps
showing up.
She crossed a border, or her mother did. She built what she has with her own hands, in a second language, on days that started earlier than she wanted. She trains because it's the part of the day that belongs to her.
We don't photograph her as an aspiration. We photograph how the clothes actually fit on a body in motion, and we tell you clearly how each piece fits, even when the honest answer is that it's not the right one for you.
No one here is selling you another body. We are offering you a place.
How we work

Tested, not assumed
Every fabric goes through squat, stretch, and sweat tests under gym lights before being approved. Opacity is measured, not estimated.

Fewer, better pieces
We'd rather make eight pieces that work than forty that look good in photos. Each one earns its place in the collection or stays out.

A restrained palette
Sage, sky, and white, alongside our green. Colors chosen to talk to each other, so everything you buy matches what you already own.

Community before the sale
The relationship is the asset. We answer messages personally, let you know when it's better to size down, and don't do pressure discounts.
